Computer Aided Hair Analysis

The treatment of hair loss for an individual might be medical, surgical or both. There are three points that should be objectively considered for a better-quality result:

  • The present condition, density and donor are sufficiency of the individual’s hair.
  • The estimated pattern of future hair loss.
  • The objective assessment of the success of the potent hair transplantation operation.
  • The accuracy of these assessments helps in the choice of correct medical therapy and proper surgical treatment for the individual. The scalp and the hair follicles can be analyzed using special computer software and cameras with appropriate magnification options (X30, X150) for viewing the status of the hair follicles.

    Phototrichogram

Future hair loss pattern of an individual could be estimated with the information gathered from the results from the anagen/telogen hair ratio analysis of different regions within the scalp; as well as the patient’s family history. The anagen/telogen ratio analysis might also help the physician for the approximation of a possible shock loss case, which might take place after a potent hair transplantation operation.

    Densitometry

This method is used to quantify the number of follicular units per Centimeter Square - both before and after the hair transplantation operation. It is also used to calculate the sufficiency of the donor area for the operation. If FUE is chosen as the operation technique, the factor for thinning could also be calculated with densitometry.

    Capillaroscopy

A bigger lens is used to view the capillary system, and the structure and the suitability of the skin could easily be investigated. This method provides more accurate analysis and follow-up possibilities, if any pigmented lesions are present.
